Government Regulators

Government Regulators

There are various regulators that operate in the jurisdictions covered by AIDGC.

Australia

In Australia, each state and territory has an active regulator for work health and safety. These are:

SafeWork/WorkSafe

A government body responsible for managing each state’s workplace safety, injury management, and workers’ compensation programs. View all SafeWork/WorkSafe references.

The state and territory-based regulation approach in Australia means that there are separate laws governing the storage and handling of dangerous goods for each state. A Commonwealth body called Safe Work Australia provides resources to the state agencies in the form of model legislation and overall strategy.

The Commonwealth has a separate regulator, Comcare, for all federal agencies.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

The government department responsible for environmental planning, environmental policy, management of parks, forestry and wildlife, environmental operations, sustainable industries, environmental and technical services, corporate affairs, and corporate development.

New Zealand

New Zealand has a single regulator performing this function, OSH, Department of Labour.
